Elements of the National Guard have seized a young Bengal tiger from inside a wooden box. The young cub was discovered in the parcel area of the Mérida International Airport on Friday.
The small wooden box, which had air holes drilled along the top, was bound for Mexico City. Since the tiger is deemed an endangered species, its box was opened and the animal seized.
Francisco Díaz González, commissioner of the National Guard in Yucatán said that the cub is male of approximately three or four months old and apparently in good health. He was transferred to the Parque Zoológico del Centenario in Mérida for protection.
