The Regional Port Authority has suspended a work project in the Cancun Hotel Zone. The construction of a pier along CREA beach at kilometer 3.2 of the hotel zone was suspended by authorities.
The suspension came after the group building the pier failed to provide the permits necessary for construction, however, the group insisted they had the proper permits and that they would continue with building.
A navy group, Chac Chi said they intend to file a criminal report for environmental crimes with the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) against the group on Monday.
They would file the complaint “due to the impact caused by the dredging and sowing for pier piles and not having the respective authorization,” they said adding they will also request the removal of the already installed piles.
With support from the State Attorney General’s Office and the Tourist Police, the Regional Harbor Master’s Office intervened, suspending the construction of the dock being done by the Caveri Group, saying the group did not have their consent or permission from the General Directorate of Ports and Merchant Marine to build.
The Harbor Master said that the dock “was built illegally and the group did not have the corresponding permits, which cannot proceed when trapping the vessels of an existing contiguous dock, putting sea navigation and life at risk.”
