A permanent security battalion for Tulum has been deployed. The permanent operation will see the deployment of National Guard personnel on the streets and beaches of the municipality.
The battalion was created on instructions of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who ordered members of the 30th Battalion of the National Guard to be stationed in the tourist destination to activate the permanent operation Escudo Tulum.
Tulum mayor Marciano Dzul Caama and General Roberto Pérez Ceja led the deployment of the elements that arrived earlier this week in Cancun. Since their arrival, they were transferred to the municipality of Tulum to join the operational activities.
“Today is a special day because elements of the National Guard are joining the surveillance of our families and our tourists. Today, we acknowledge the support of the President of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador, for reinforcing, with federal forces, the work that we have tirelessly arranged to guarantee security, tranquility and above all peace to all Tulum residents,” said the mayor.
The National Guard Inspector, Eduardo García Grajeda, detailed the objective of the operational activities in close coordination and cooperation with municipal and state forces.
“It is a permanent deployment that allows for crime prevention, preserving public safety, restoring peace and addressing the problem of crime with strict adherence to the rule of law and respect for human rights,” he reported.
He added that the uniformed men and women are receiving a course on tourist proximity and protection for national and international tourism.
