Mexico’s low-cost airline Volaris, has received its 100th aircraft. The new plane will be used to cover the company’s Tijuana-Cancun route.
The plane was delivered at the Guadalajara International Airport earlier this week. The airline, which also flies to the United States, Central and South America, will serve the Tijuana to Cancun routes, increasing frequencies by 22 percent.
The company says with the latest addition, Volaris now has more than 9,500 seats flying daily on its 186 routes.
“This fact is historic, especially since it happens one year after the greatest crisis in aviation, which grounded 90 percent of the fleet. Today, our objective of long-term investment in the country and its economic development is strengthened with the vision of continuing to lead domestic and international connectivity,” said Enrique Beltranena, executive president and CEO of Volaris.
From January to November, Volaris carried 21.7 million passengers, placing its recovery levels above those of 2019, at around 24 percent.
Recently, Volaris also announced the purchase order for 39 Airbus A321 NEO aircraft and negotiated 20 conversions from its current order to this same model to keep its fleet young, through the replacement of equipment with better technology to ensure long-term sustainable growth and improved efficiency and fuel savings, as well as a reduction in emissions.
